| About Shikai |
The Story of ShiKai begins in 1975 when Dr. Dennis T. Sepp, a PhD
in organic chemistry, was teaching and conducting research at the
University of Minnesota. While doing his research, he became
intrigued by hair & skin care and the unique properties and
capabilities of a number of plants which grow in the Far East. He
experimented first with the powdered fruit of the shikakai plant.
This fruit has been used for centuries as a natural, low pH
"shampoo" for hair. It was (and continues to be) valued for its
ability to leave hair exceptionally shiny without stripping away
the oils which are so important to healthy hair and scalp. "ShiKai"
extract became the soap and detergent-free basis for the first
line of shampoos and the name of a new company.
Dr. Sepp expanded his ShiKai line to include a conditioner based
on an oil which is extracted from the the amla berry. Amla has
been prized for centuries for its ability to leave hair shiny,
soft and very healthy. Today it is considered possibly the world's
oldest and most effective natural conditioner for hair. It is the
name of and the key ingredient in our best selling Everyday
Conditioner.
Continuing his focus on natural hair care, Dr. Sepp studied the
beneficial effects of henna. Not only is henna a natural coloring
agent, but it also acts as a conditioner, leaving hair with a
brilliant shine and increased body. The company developed a
special, neutral (non-coloring) extract from henna leaves which is
used in our popular ShiKai Highlighting Shampoo & Conditioner.
ShiKai has grown since its modest beginnings. We now produce a
line of Hand & Body Lotions and Moisturizing Bath & Shower Gels
which are rich in organic and natural ingredients. Our Color
Enhancing products are high quality, professional natural Color
Enhancing Shampoos, Conditioners and Styling aids. These are all
based on natural extracts which really work to accomplish the
intended results. |
