The firm of Rigaud, a French company, began in the nineteenth century as a maker of fine perfumes. Monsieur Regaud's wife, a wealthy socialite, opened a fine boutique on the Champs Elysees, and asked one of the Rigaud perfumers to make a candle for her to use in her shop that would give the shop a special ambiance. No concern was given to the cost, as the candle was not intended for sale. The perfumer made what we now call the Cypres (green) candle, still our most popular and intoxicating fragrance.

Customers and friends who came to the shop, all of whom were at the top of French society, wanted to buy the candles and they were sold only to them. From then until now, the fame of Rigaud has spread by word of mouth from person to person and from country to country. 

WAX FORMULA
Rigaud uses "more perfume oil than wax," (unique in the candle industry), and the wax formula they use is much different than the standard paraffin wax used in everyday candles. It is much softer, for example. But the exact formula is proprietary and not available to anyone at this time.
